We laugh and joke about how easy many of us get distracted. We find one interest after another and when we pursue all of them it’s hard to succeed at any. You will find the odd collection of topics addressed in the many blog posts and the random order in which they appear, to be an example how interests and distractions can so easily influence our focus.
In the 1995 movie Sabrina, Linus, the older brother, chastised his younger brother David because he failed to stick with something, or someone. David declared his love for a beautiful red-head but was turning his interest to Sabrina. On one of the few occasions when David showed up in the corporate office, he expressed a reluctance to follow through with his planned marriage. The following rebuke from Linus was a caution to me that I never forgot.
“Look at yourself. You went to law school, you never took the bar. You went to business school, I can’t get you near the office. You studied languages you don’t speak, instruments you don’t play. You have a series of girl friends you never see more than twice. Do you see a pattern here?”
“You’re a grown man David. Finish Something!”
So, as you find something here that you find interesting, remember, it was written during a phase where that topic was of interest to the author. If you find a second or third something interesting, you may also be suffering from A.D.O.L.
